Huddersfield Town deny bid for Jon Stead

Jon Stead
Stead joined Ipswich permanently in June 2009 after a loan spell

Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark has denied making an approach to Ipswich Town for Terriers old boy Jon Stead.

The 27-year-old former Sheffield United striker spent the end of last season on loan at Coventry City where he scored twice in 10 appearances.

Clark told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner: "If I wanted to speak to any player under contract, I would approach his manager first.

"I haven't contacted Roy [Keane, Ipswich boss] about Jon Stead."

Stead joined Ipswich permanently in June 2009 on a three-year contract after a successful loan spell at Portman Road.

The Huddersfield-born forward started his career at his hometown club, scoring 24 goals in 76 appearances.
