Andy Priaulx to realise Le Mans dream

Andy Priaulx
Priaulx has won the World Touring Car Championship three times

Guernsey's Andy Priaulx says he will realise a motor racing dream when he starts the Le Mans 24-hour race for the first time this weekend.

Priaulx and his team-mates, Dirk Müller and Dirk Werner, will race car number 79, the livery of which was designed by celebrated American artist Jeff Koons.

Priaulx said: "There are several events that are iconic and would be every driver's dream to participate in.

"Le Mans is at the top of that list and I just can't wait for it to start."

Priaulx's BMW M3 GT2 has been entered in the highly competitive LM GT2 category, in which 17 of the 45 cars are entered.

They face competition from Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Spyker.

Priaulx said: "I am also really excited about driving a car that has already received a lot of attention. This BMW is not only a joy to drive, but an amazing work of art to look at.

"I know the car well from our warm-up races for this weekend in the Nürburgring and at Spa-Francorchamps and believe we have the chance of a good result."
