Jon Cook's Lakeside finished third in the 2009 Elite League |
Lakeside Hammers boss Jon Cook says his team are capable of beating Poole to the Elite League title this season. The Hammers are sitting second in the table after a good recent run of form, including an impressive 53-40 win over Poole on 14 May. Cook told BBC Essex: "I'm quietly confident. Our performance against Poole was dominant, particularly in the first half of the meeting. "We fear nobody at the moment. Hopefully the best is yet to come." Cook's men are currently 14 points adrift of the leaders but kept third place Wolverhampton at bay on Monday, with a 51-44 victory over the Midlanders. | We're as good as a lot of teams and better than most Jon Cook, Lakeside team manager |
They face Peterborough next at the Arena-Essex Raceway, a side that have failed to live up to pre-season expectations. "We were much more confident about our team than what the experts gave us credit for," Cook continued. "At the moment we're close to reaching our full potential - I think we're as good as a lot of teams and better than most."
