Southend United have accepted an offer for defender Simon Francis from an unnamed League One club.
The 25-year-old has been allowed to talk to the mystery side in order to discuss personal terms.
The full-back still has one year to go on his current deal but turned down an offer of a three-year extension earlier in the month.
The former Sheffield United player was voted the Shrimpers' player of the year this season.
Francis made it clear shortly after Southend were relegated from League One that he wanted to leave the club.
In a statement issued in mid-May he said: "I'm very happy here but it's now a case of wanting to make the most of my ability.
"I believe I can do better as a player than League Two and manager Steve Tilson and chairman Ron Martin know that."
Francis turned down a move to Peterborough last season after failing to agree terms.
"That wasn't the right move for me at the time but I hope Southend will be sympathetic towards my cause," the statement added.
Francis has made 180 appearances for Southend since joining from the Blades in 2006 but could not help them avoid relegation.
