Harvey's win in Barcelona was his second Formula BMW victory |
Lincolnshire racing driver Jack Harvey finished first and third in the two races of the opening round of the Formula BMW Europe series in Barcelona. Harvey, 17, led from start to finish in wet conditions in Saturday's opening race after qualifying in pole position. He was again on pole for Sunday's race but had to settle for third after damaging the front wing of his car. He said: "It's an awesome way to start the season. The car was really good all weekend and I have to thank the team." The victory was the former karting star's second in Formula BMW. Harvey, from Bassingham, leads the standings by four points after the opening round but said it was too early to think about winning the championship. "It's nice to be at the top and it's great for the team to be there after all of the hard work over the winter and in the run-up to this weekend," he said. "But I'm not going to even think about the championship until at least the middle of the season, I just want to concentrate on keeping this momentum going and take more race wins." Harvey returns to the scene of his maiden victory, Zandvoort in the Netherlands, for round two of the series from 4-6 June.
