Bill Kirby was Lincolnshire's top scorer with an unbeaten 65

Lincolnshire lost by two wickets to Suffolk in a dramatic MCCA knock-out trophy match at Woodhall Spa.

Bill Kirby top-scored with 65 not out in Lincolnshire's 218-7 from 50 overs.

Suffolk looked set for a comfortable win but lost four late wickets to leave them needing one run from the last two balls to win.

Chris Lomas was run out, giving Lincolnshire the edge by having lost fewer wickets, but Suffolk scored the winner with a bye off the final ball.

Lincolnshire captain Mat Dowman told BBC Lincolnshire: "We're disappointed with the result but not with our attitude and application.

"We hung in there to get to that stage and to give ourselves a chance of winning the game and it was a sound performance with one or two areas where, while we didn't let ourselves down, we just came up a little short."

Chris Warn and Hassan Adnan made half-centuries for the visitors, while Dowman, Jonathan Darke and Stuart Airey claimed two wickets apiece for Lincolnshire with Airey's coming off successive deliveries in the 49th over.

Chris Swallow was the best of Suffolk's bowlers with four wickets.

MCCA Knockout Trophy group 4, Woodhall Spa:
