Jack Harvey races for the Fortec Motorsport team in Formula BMW

Lincolnshire racing driver Jack Harvey is aiming for a strong start to the Formula BMW Europe season at Barcelona this weekend.

Harvey, 17, was second in the Rookie Cup in 2009, in his first ever season in single-seaters and claimed his maiden win at Zandvoort in Holland.

He said: "I am going out to Spain looking for two podium finishes, preferably both on the top step.

"I feel I can definitely challenge for the championship this year."

Former Karting champion Harvey added: "I'm glad to be back racing, it's been almost eight months since I was in competition.

"When I started last year I was under-prepared for the transition from karts to cars but I'm now going to make sure I do the best possible job every time we go out and try to take the title."

The meeting at Barcelona, on the same weekend as the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, is the first of eight rounds in the 2010 Formula BMW Europe series, with race one on Saturday and race two on Sunday.
