Plymouth Devils out of National League Cup

Plymouth have crashed out of the National League Cup after losing 99-64 over two legs to Newport in round one.

After a shock 42-29 loss at the St Boniface Arena on Friday, the Devils failed to overturn the deficit in the second leg on Saturday.

Newport won 47-35 at home, with Kyle Newman's 12 points, and 10 points from Mark Jones keeping the Devils out.

Mark Simmonds and Paul Starke both scored 12 points for the Devils, but the other riders struggled.


Newport: Tony Atkin 7 (4 rides), Mark Jones 10 (4), Kyle Newman 10+2 (5), Todd Kurtz 13+1 (5), Tim Webster 8 (4). Reserves: Tom Young 3+1 (4), James White-Williams 6 (4).

Plymouth: Mark Simmonds 12 (5), Lee Smethills (rider replacement), Paul Starke 12 (6), Matt Wright 3 (5), Seemond Stephens 6 (4). Reserves: Dan Berwick 0 (3), Jaimie Pickard 2+1 (7).
