Topinka has ridden for King's Lynn since the 1990s |
Tomas Topinka will miss the start of King's Lynn Stars' defence of their Premier League title. The 35-year-old Czech, who is Stars captain, suffered a broken leg in heat five of Saturday's Premier Trophy defeat at Rye House Rockets. Team manager Rob Lyon said Topinka will miss a month of league meetings. "I would say an approximate time of three to five weeks, something like that. Given the nature of the crash he came out relatively well," he said. "Once he feels ready and fit to come back he'll be fine and come straight back and hopefully resume where he left off." Chris Schramm, a treble winner with King's Lynn last season, will deputise for Wednesday's Premier League clash with Sheffield. And Lyon says they need to make the right selections for each meeting without their influential captain. "Chris rode for us last year and knows his way around King's Lynn very well, knows what the track's about," he said. "Obviously we'll look at it for each match, we've got three next week to consider, and we'll take it on a horses for courses basis."
