Stead suffered an engine failure in the final heat which cost Robins victory |
Swindon Robins suffered their first defeat of the season against Lakeside at the Abbey Stadium. The two sides were level on 42 points going into the final heat as the lead change hands throughout the evening. However Robins rider Simon Stead suffered an engine failure in the last heat when he was sitting comfortably in third position. This allowed Lakeside to register a 4-2 heat advantage and therefore a two-point overall victory. Leigh Adams finished the night as Swindon's top man with 12 points out of a possible 15. The Robins have only completed two of their five scheduled Elite League meetings because of rain. They were forced to move their season opener, the Bob Kilby Memorial meeting, last month because of rain. Two friendlies against Poole also had to be called off, as well as the Elite League meeting at Wolverhampton. And both the home and away matches against Ipswich had to be stopped mid-way through because of rain.
