Brummies sign two for new season

Birmingham Brummies
Birmingham begin their new season in March

Birmingham Brummies have announced the signings of Australian pair Steve Johnston and Jason Lyons for the 2010 Premier League season.

Johnston raced with Somerset Rebels last season, while Lyons has agreed to return to the club for a fourth season.

Birmingham boss Graham Drury said: "Wherever he (Johnston) goes he's a popular character.

"As soon as Gary (Patchett) and me realised he was available we said we'd go for him and quickly agreed terms."

Johnston, who first arrived in the UK in 1992 with Sheffield Tigers, raced with Coventry in 2007.

"The Birmingham fans will love Johno and this is a perfect start to our team building. We've got more signings lined up not too far away," Drury added.

Club owner Gary Patchett said: "In Jason we have a fantastic captain with legendary status at the club and Johno is a very good rider as well as being great for team spirit.

"I expect them to be challenging each other for top spot in our team."
