Masters' signing is part of the Rebels' new scouting network in Australia |
Somerset Rebels have made their first signing for the 2010 speedway season, young Australian rider Sam Masters. The Rebels fought off competition from several other clubs to sign the 18-year-old who has already qualified to ride in the UK. "We are all over the moon to have Sam coming to Somerset," said Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock. "He's the first young rider the club has actually signed to its asset base for many years." Hancock continued: "His whole family's approach to the negotiations to ensure that Sam was going to the right club for his long-term future and not just for any short-term gains was certainly refreshing. "His signing has been, in part, thanks to a new scouting operation that Somerset has put in place in Australia to identify the best new crop of young riders that are starting to appear on the speedway scene. "Hopefully this new initiative will bear fruit for the Rebels over forthcoming years."
