Swindon captain Leigh Adams expects to return to the club next year and is confident they will again be challenging for the Elite League title.

The Robins topped the Elite League table but lost their second play-off final in three seasons, going down to Wolverhampton in the final.

Adams told BBC Wiltshire: "I'm pretty sure we'll be back.

"They've told me roughly which direction they want to go and I'm included in that which is fantastic."

"I would never want to leave, it's definitely my home." he said.

The Robins are unlikely to announce any confirmed signings until after the British Speedway Promoters Association Annual Meeting in November.

But whoever they recruit, Adams is confident they will again be a major force.

"We'll give it a good shot," he added.

"Every year the management come up with a great team, which is pretty difficult with the way my average is.

"They do an unbelievable job, every year we've got a team that's at the pointy end and I can't see any difference next year. It'll be the same."

Now aged 38, Adams also confirmed he was leaving the Grand Prix series after 14 years in the event.

His final event was the Polish GP in Bydgoszcz last weekend where Adams produced his best performance of the season with a second placed finish to former World Champion Nicki Pedersen.

"It was a nice way to bow out, to get some champagne in my eyes, obviously it would have been nice to win but it wasn't to be.

"I've had a pretty disappointing year, it's been horrible." he added.

it's going to be a bit weird sitting back watching all these meetings but the time has come, I'm not getting any younger.

Adams is a former World under-21 champion, 10 time Australian champion and has won club honours in England, Poland and Sweden.

The two glaring gaps in his CV are his failure to lead his adopted home town Swindon to the Elite League title and the fact he is probably the best rider never to win the world speedway crown.

Having spent so long competing in the Grand Prix series he admits watching the championship in 2010 is going to be difficult.

"The first one is is Leszno so I'll probably go an have a look, it's going to be a bit weird sitting back watching all these meetings but the time has come, I'm not getting any younger.

"The kids are into all sorts of activities and really I've got to focus on their side of things, it will be nice to spend a bit more time with the family."
