Steve Johnston will lead the Rebels' bid for a play-off berth against Newport |
Somerset Rebels go into Friday night's Premier League clash with Newport looking for a top four play-off spot. Following their recent victories, away at Newport and at home to Birmingham, the Rebels currently lie fifth in the table with 36 points. "We've put ourselves in a good position as far as the play-offs are concerned," said captain Steve Johnston. "We must not let all our hard work go to waste with any silly slip-ups in our remaining matches. "The Wasps will be coming to the Oak Tree Arena looking for revenge after our win at their place on Sunday." A play-off place would give the Rebels, level on points with third-placed Sheffield and fourth-placed Newcastle, the chance of promotion to speedway's top flight, the Elite League. Somerset's remaining fixtures are at Edinburgh this Saturday (5 September), away against Sheffield (10 September) and at home to Scunthorpe a day later.
