Day three at Riverside washed out

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Riverside:
CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY THREE: Durham 272, Somerset 174 and 41-0
(Durham 5pts, Somerset 3pts)
1-4 September 2009

Durham v Somerset

Rain prevented any play on day three of the County Championship clash between leaders Durham and Somerset.

Umpires Rob Bailey and Jeff Evans abandoned play for the day midway through the afternoon after heavy rain soaked the Riverside.

Somerset remain 41-0 in their second innings, 57 behind Durham and now with little chance of forcing the win they need to keep their title hopes alive.

A draw will leave leaders Durham 32 points ahead of their visitors.

But Somerset are unlikely to bridge that gap as they only have two more games remaining, compared to Durham's three.
