The Manx Motor Cycle Club has announced HEL Performance will sponsor the opening day of racing at this year's Manx Grand Prix on the Isle of Man. Managing director Simon Lane said: "Sponsoring a race day at the MGP is a dream come true for us. "We held negotiations with the TT this year, but the Manx fits our profile better. "The opportunity to get in front of 30,000 real racing fans, is a great opportunity." The opening race day of the 2009 Manx Grand Prix is on Monday, 31 August, with the first event being the Newcomers Race and the Post Classic Race commencing at 1015 BST. The Junior/Lightweight Classic Race will follow at 1315 BST, both races over four laps of the Mountain Course, 150.92 miles.
At the 2009 event a new pit lane speed restriction of 60 kph will be in operation during races. There will be sanctions for any competitor breaking the speed limit as follows: 61kph - 80kph - a time penalty of 30 seconds. 81kph - 100kph - a time penalty of 60 seconds Over 100 kph - disqualification from the race. On the instruction of the clerk of the course, these penalties will be a matter of fact with no right of protest or appeal.
