Kneen impressed with a double victory at the Manx Grand Prix |
Daniel Kneen has made Manx Grand Prix history, by becoming the first man to win a Newcomers Race and the Junior Manx Grand Prix in the same year. The 21-year-old crossed the line ahead of Ryan McCay and Philip McGurk.
His father Richard, a former competitor, said: "Daniel is totally dedicated and he deserves his success. "He works very hard on his bike and does all his own preparation, as does [his brother] Ryan. It is always an advantage to know your own machine." For most of the race it had been Michael Weldon pushing him all the way with the pair racing against the clock and each other on the road. Matters were settled when Weldon came off on the last lap at Windy Corner. He was taken by helicopter to Nobles Hospital with suspected wrist ankle and leg injuries. Earlier, Blackpool's Roy Richardson made it three-in-a-row in the Junior Classic ahead of Paul Coward and Ryan Farquhar. Ewan Hamilton defended his Lightweight Classic crown finishing in front of Peter Symes and Jonathan Cutts.
