Plater leads the British Supersport Championship by 11 points |
Woodhall Spa's Steve Plater has decided against riding for HM Plant Honda at Brands Hatch and Cadwell Park in the British Superbike Championship. Plater was to have deputised for the injured Glen Richards, but will instead concentrate on the British Supersport Championship which he currently leads. He told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "It makes more sense to focus on one and win it than try to do well in both. "I want to win the Supersport championship for Honda and for myself." With five rounds remaining Plater has an 11-point advantage over Billy McConnell in the standings. Reigning Superstock champion Steve Brogan, who stood in for Richards in the Superbike races at Mallory Park, will again race at Brands Hatch while John McGuinness will ride at Cadwell Park. HM Plant have yet to decide who if anyone will ride their second bike at the meetings in place of the banned Josh Brookes, but say they will definitely field two riders in the Louth team's home race at Cadwell. Brookes was banned for two rounds for dangerous riding after causing a crash in the opening race at Mallory Park which eliminated the leading six riders, while Richards was sidelined with a broken leg following a crash in qualifying for round six at Knockhill.
