Australian reserve Richard Sweetman was unbeaten by an opponent as he inspired Birmingham to a 53-39 win over Workington at Perry Barr. Inheriting extra rides following the Brummies' release of Manuel Hauzinger, Sweetman won six of his seven races. With skipper Jason Lyons going a perfect six-for-six, the home side won the top-of-the-table clash comfortably. Ludvig Lindgren even borrowed Sweetman's bike to partner Lyons to a 5-1 in the final heat. Kevin Doolan led the Comets with 10 points, surviving a scare in heat 11 when his throttle jammed open as he crossed the finishing line. Richard Lawson added seven points for the visitors, Andre Compton, Craig Cook and Adrian Rymel contributing six apiece. After Sweetman (20), and Lyons (18) the next best performers for the Brummies were Lindgren with eight and Thomas Ksiezak (five).
