Supernova's Javier Villa produced two top-10 finishes in Monaco |
Norfolk-based GP2 teams iSport International and Supernova Racing go to Turkey this weekend hoping for their first podiums of the season. Last year iSport's Bruno Senna's race was ended by a stray dog on the track. But iSport race engineer Richard Selwin is hoping that this year's challenges will be a bit more technical. "It [Istanbul] is especially hard on the drivers, it's a demanding circuit with a difficult mix of high and low speed sections," he said. "There are some opportunities to overtake at this circuit, after the long back straight and into the first corner are the main ones." Supernova team-principle David Sears, meanwhile, is expecting the local climate to have an impact on performances. "The whole team are looking forward to a hot weekend of racing, we're looking forward to some results following a disappointing Monaco race," he said. "We feel both drivers are up for the challenge, so we are heading there with high hopes." In rounds three and four in Monaco both iSport drivers failed to finish race one while Supernova's Javier Villa was 10th. Villa improved enough to finish eighth in the second race in Monte Carlo, while Giedo van der Garde and Diego Nunes were 11th and 14th respectively for iSport. In the season's opening weekend in Barcelona, Supernova's Luca Fillipe was fourth in the first race, with iSport's van der Garde seventh, but the pair reversed their placings in race two.
