Rules and regulations for the Isle of Man's first ever Green TT, the 2009 TTXGP, have finally been released.

The new rules will allow greater freedom in terms of bike style, powering and rider position.

Internal combustion engines powered by non-carbon based fuels, hydrogen fuel cells, batteries of all types and regenerative energy from braking are all permitted.

"We wanted to encourage innovation," said race founder Azhar Hussain.

In further deviations from conventional motorcycling racing rules, the use of dual-drive, where both wheels are powered, is to be permitted.

Variations in rider-positioning will also be allowed. This means that teams may choose to adopt the feet-forward position which has not been allowed in any previous motorcycle Grand Prix race.
