Harvey has already won the Asia-Pacific title this season |
Lincolnshire kart racer Jack Harvey qualified for the European Championships after coming fifth in the qualifying meet in Alcaniz, Spain. Harvey claimed top-four finishes in all four of his heats to take pole position in the first KF2 final, which he won. In the grand final he was forced off the track but fought back from last place to 16th and fifth overall. Harvey said: "I'm confident for the second half of the season, we proved that we're one of the teams to beat." Harvey's performance at the weekend was all the more remarkable as his Birel Motorsport team discovered after the race that several components on the kart had been damaged following the first-corner incident. | I'm full of confidence for the second half of the season as I know that we have everything in place now to take some big victories |
He admitted: "I pushed as hard as I could when I got back onto the track but I knew the kart wasn't 100% after the accident and I didn't have the laps available to try and go for a podium finish. "We had a really good weekend, everything was really strong, the chassis, the engine, it was all working really well. "I'm full of confidence for the second half of the season as I know that we have everything in place now to take some big victories." Harvey returns to action next weekend in the latest round of the Winning Series of Karting in Sarno, Italy. The European Championships take place in Braga in Portugal from 31 July to 3 August.
