Priaulx gets opening win of 2008

Guernsey driver Andy Priaulx secured his first win of the 2008 World Touring Car Championship on Sunday.

The champion won the second race in torrential rain around the street circuit of Pau in southern France.

By finishing the first race in eighth place he secured pole position in race two and won by 4.528 seconds from Italy's Nicola Larini.

His team mate Augusto Farfus won the first race ensuring it was BMW clean sweep for the first time this season.

The victory lifts Priaulx up to fourth in the World Touring Car Championship with 33 points.

He is four points behind Sweden's Ricard Rydell and another point behind second-placed Yvan Muller.

Italy's Gabriele Tarquini still leads the standings with 45 points.

The next round is in Brno in the Czech Republic in two weeks time.
