Huff qualified fourth in Valencia in the last round of the WTCC
Cambridgeshire-based World Touring Car Championship star Rob Huff believes qualifying will be the key to success in rounds seven and eight in France.
Huff's Chevrolet will be carrying almost 50kg of ballast on the narrow streets of Pau following his double podium in Spain two weeks ago.
"If we can get in the top four or five in qualifying I'll be really pleased," Huff told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
"Then I'll just defend like hell and keep them all behind me in the race."
With his car weighed down, Huff knows his race pace will be reduced, but is hoping to make the most of the lack of overtaking opportunities at Pau.
"It such a difficult thing to overtake on a street circuit, it's so narrow...fingers crossed we'll have a good qualifying performance and get some more points this weekend.
"Nicola [Larini], my team-mate, had about 40kg last year and he still qualified fourth so I'm hoping that in qualifying it [the extra weight] won't affect us too much."
The Seats are superior to anyone, Yvan Muller had the best part of 100kg of weight at the weekend and he put it on pole in the wet by eight-10ths
WTCC driver Rob Huff
Huff is seventh in the drivers' championship with 18 points, but knows he will have his work cut out to be up at the top at the end of the season.
"The Seats are superior to anyone, Yvan Muller had the best part of 100kg of weight at the weekend and he put it on pole in the wet by eight-10ths.
"Some races we did last year we had the whole field covered by three-10th so to put it on pole that far from second in a phenomenal amount."
