Rob Huff enjoyed his best weekend since joining the WTCC |
Cambridgeshire-based Rob Huff claimed his first points of the season with a win and a second in the Spanish round of the World Touring Car Championships. Huff's double podium marked his most successful race weekend since joining the WTCC in 2005. "Eighteen points for the championship. I could not have dreamt of a better result," Huff told the WTCC website. "I had two hard races with a lot of overtaking, but my car was definitely the best one today." Huff's Chevrolet team had struggled in the opening two races of the season in South America, but used their lack of success ballast to good effect in Valencia. | It has been hard in the last three years here, because I was always involved in a crash at the start of the first race |
Huff won the first race from third on the grid, and then followed in team-mate Alain Menu to grab second place in race two. Huff has never made it past the first corner at Valencia in his three previous visits. "It has been hard in the last three years here, because I was always involved in a crash at the start of the first race," he said. "To come back and win was obviously a pretty good result for me." The results move Huff up to seventh in the drivers' championship, 10 points behind Yvan Muller in second, and 18 behind leader Gabriele Tarquini. The WTCC resumes in France on the weekend of 31 May.
