| Sunday, 7 July, 2002, 07:04 GMT 08:04 UK Enge wins at Silverstone Tomas Enge clinched his second victory of the season to move within nine points of Sebastien Bourdais at the top of the F3000 standings. Enge, driving for Arden International, led the British round of the championship at Silverstone from start to finish, beating Bourdais over the line by almost 13 seconds. With five of the 12 rounds remaining, Frenchman Bourdais remains the favourite to take the title ahead of Czech driver Enge, with the rest of the field trailing. Brazilian Ricardo Sperafico claimed third ahead of Italy's Giorgio Pantano, who retains his third place in the championship, but is now 20 points adrift of Bourdais and 11 behind Enge. Marred Michael Waltrip won Nascar's Pepsi 400 at Daytona on Saturday, edging out Rusty Wallace in a race that finished under caution. His only other career win was marred when Dale Earnhardt died at the same circuit in last year's Daytona 500. Waltrip was Earnhardt's good friend and employee, and he celebrated his latest win by spinning donuts in the infield before embracing his jubilant team in Victory Lane. For much of the end of the race, Dale Earnhardt Jr was right on Waltrip's tail. But with three laps remaining, Earnhardt Jr cost himself the race when he tried to pass his team-mate and got hung out to dry. Moments later, Geoffrey Bodine and Ryan Newman collided, and the final two-and-half laps were run under the yellow flag. Herbert sets pace Johnny Herbert was third in Monday's round of the American Le Mans Series at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, as Audi claimed the first three places. At the chequered flag in the four-hour, 500-mile Road America race, the Brentwood-born ex-grand prix winner was just 94 seconds behind the Capello Audi, which had started in pole-position. Herbert resumes his challenge for the ALMS title in the fifth round of the ten race American Le Mans Series in an inaugural Washington street circuit race on 21 July. | See also: 11 May 02 | Motorsport 02 May 02 | Motorsport 14 Apr 02 | Motorsport Top Motorsport stories now: Links to more Motorsport stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
