The opener looked to drive Shaun Pollock on the off-side but got an inside edge onto his stumps for 46.

Stand-in captain Rahul Dravid had faced 51 balls by tea, but made just 11 runs.

He had recently been joined by Sachin Tendulkar, on two not out.

After home captain Pollock declared overnight, Das and Connor Williams put on 92 for the first wicket.

The total is a record for India against South Africa at Centurion Park but will not count as a Test record because of the unofficial nature of this match.

Left-hander Williams looked far more at home in his second innings of the tour but still displayed poor footwork in defence.

The wiley Lance Klusener had him caught at second slip for 42, from 83 balls, shortly before the break.

Depending on Monday's board decision on the status of Virender Sehwag, Williams could have been playing for a spot in the lineup for the first Test against England.

Dennis Lindsay, the stand-in match referee for this fixture, is scheduled to be the ICC selection for the Test series in India which begins next week.
