Cavan twins Lisa and Leona Maguire will become the youngest players ever to represent Great Britain & Ireland in the Curtis Cup later this year.

The 15-year-olds have been named in the eight-strong team to take on the US in Massachusetts in June.

Royal County Down's Danielle McVeigh is also on the GB & Ireland team.

The twins set an age record last year when they competed for GB & Ireland in the Vagliano Trophy match against Europe at the age of 14.

The youngest ever player to compete in the Curtis Cup was Michelle Wie, who was 14 when she was a member of the US team at Formby in 2004.

Leona secured selection earlier this month as she retained the French Under-21 Girls' Open title.

Lisa won both the Irish Open Amateur Stroke Play and the Irish Close last year after clinching Scottish Open Amateur Stroke Play title in 2008.

The twins clashed in the Irish Close final in 2008 when Leona edged victory.

The Loreto College, Cavan students helped Ireland win the European Girls' team title last year and both played for Europe in the Junior Solheim Cup match in America.

McVeigh showed her current good form on Sunday as she won the Scottish Amateur Stroke Play title at Troon.

The Royal County Down player won both the British Open Amateur Stroke Play and Welsh Open Amateur Stroke Play titles last year.

McVeigh is a member of the Paddy Harrington Golf Scholarship programme at NUI Maynooth where she is a second-year student.

Her two years on the US college circuit in Texas coincided with her winning the World Student's title in Thailand.

Only Scottish player Sally Watson survives from the GB&I team who lost 13-7 at the Old Course in St Andrews in 2008.

Stephanie Meadow of Royal Portrush has been named as one of the four reserves on the team, which will be captained by Mary McKenna.

This year's matches, the 36th staging of the event, take place at Essex County Club in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts from 11-13 June.
