Thirteen-year-old Leona Maguire beat her twin sister Lisa 3&2 at Westport to become the youngest ever winner of the Irish Women's Close Championship. Lisa squared the final at the 10th before Leona surged ahead by winning the 11th, 12th and 13th holes. The gap was reduced to two but Leona won the 16th to secure victory. Cavan teenager Lisa beat Gemma Hegarty 3&2 in the semi-finals while Leona earned a place in the decider by defeating Dawn Marie Conaty 4&3. Lisa enjoyed a 5&4 win over Gillian O'Leary of Cork and then beat Mary Dowling to reach the last four stage. Leona beat Carla Reynolds and then Darragh McGowan to make the semi-finals.
