Barham raised thousands of pounds for Demelza House Children's Hospice |
Kent golfer Benn Barham has raised more than 8,000 for charity thanks to his best season so far. The Ashford professional asked people to pledge a pound for every birdie he made this year. He shot 245 birdies and five eagles, with the money raised going to the Demelza House Children's Hospice near Sittingbourne in Kent. He told BBC Radio Kent: "I finished 110th on the order of merit and I think we have raised 8,500, which is great." Barham added: "This week we gathered everybody who sponsored me for my birdies to say thank you. "I kept my card for next year, I had a couple of top tens and hit lots of birdies which is great for Demelza. "I am trying to get everyone to sign up again and get lots of other people involved, let's hope it goes from strength-to-strength."
