Andy Barcham's second-half header was enough to send Gillingham into the second round of the FA Cup at the expense of an unfortunate Bury side.

The home team could have taken an early lead when Andy Morrell had a powerful left-foot shot deflected wide.

Striker Andy Bishop twice went close for Bury, forcing Alan Julian into a fine save and then shooting wide.

Bury were to rue their missed chances when on-loan Spurs forward Barcham stooped to convert Curtis Weston cross.
