Ramsay to join Woods in US Open
Richie Ramsay
Ramsay, 23, won the US Amateur at Hazeltine last August
Scotland's US Amateur champion Richie Ramsay will partner Tiger Woods and holder Geoff Ogilvy in next week's US Open at Oakmont, Pennsylvania.

The Open, US Open and US Amateur champions are traditionally grouped together for the first two rounds.

World number two Phil Mickelson will play with Jim Furyk and Adam Scott, ranked three and four.

And Colin Montgomerie partners Chris DiMarco, both of whom have lost twice in play-offs in the majors.

World number one Woods, gunning for his 13th major title, Australian Ogilvy and Briton Ramsay are set to tee off on the first hole at 0806 (1306 BST) in Thursday's opening round.

Ramsay, 23, who played alongside Mickelson in the Masters in April, became the first British US Amateur champion in 95 years when he beat American John Kelly at Hazeltine National in August 2006.

Woods, the US Open champion at Pebble Beach in 2000 and at Bethpage Black in 2002, is chasing his third major title in four starts after victories in last year's USPGA at Medinah and Open at Hoylake.

Mickelson withdrew from this week's St Jude Championship in Memphis with a wrist injury but expects to be fit for Oakmont.

Other groupings include the all-Spanish line-up of Jose Maria Olazabal, Sergio Garcia and Pablo Martin.

Australian friends Stuart Appleby and Robert Allenby are also paired together, as are Boo Weekley and Bubba Watson, former high school team-mates.

Scotland's Montgomerie, runner-up to Ogilvy last year, lost out to South African Ernie Els the last time the US Open was held at Oakmont in 1994.

He also finished second to Australian Steve Elkington for the 1995 USPGA at Riviera.

American DiMarco lost in a play-off to Woods for the 2005 Masters and to Vijay Singh at the 2004 USPGA.

The US Open takes place at Oakmont, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from 14-17 June.
