Vijay Singh birdied five of the first six holes on his way to an eight-under-par 63 and victory in the Phoenix Open in Sunday.

Singh claimed his second win in the tournament by three strokes from John Huston, who closed with a 67.

Third-round leader Harrison Frazar struggled to a 69 and tied for third at 265 with Robert Gamez (66), Retief Goosen (67) and Tim Petrovic (68).

Alex Cejka and Joe Durant finished five shots off the lead, followed by Phil Mickelson and Mike Weir on 267.

Mickelson and Cejka carded 64s, but were too far back at the start to make a charge.

Defending champion Chris DiMarco finished 15 under for the tournament, only two shots worse than his winning 267 in 2002, but was eight shots off the pace.

Ernie Els failed in his bid to win a fourth consecutive tournament as China's Lian-Wei Zhang claimed the Singapore Masters.

The Open champion led by two shots at the start of the final round but could only manage a one-over-par 73, his worst round of the week.

Zhang birdied the last hole to card a two-under 70 to win by a stroke from Els and secure the biggest win of his career.

He becomes the first ever Chinese winner on the European Tour.

In third was Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng a stroke behind Els, while England's Simon Khan and Dutchman Maarten Lafeber finished a stroke further back.

Els was leading by a stroke going into the short par-four 18th hole when he smacked his shot into the rough, finishing with a bogey.

Zhang then hit a 136-yard shot, narrowly missing an eagle as the ball stopped three feet away from the cup. He then made the birdie shot for the victory.

"I was pretty pumped up on the front nine, but even then I was still targeting a top-three finish," Zhang said.

"This is Ernie Els I beat. The world number two, who is playing very well right now."

Trevor Immelman fired a 71, his worst score of the weekend, but held on for his second title of 2003 at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City.

The South African claimed a one-stroke victory over countryman Andrew McLardy and American Bruce Vaughan.

Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke, had been tied with Immelman for the lead when darkness brought an end to play on Saturday.

But while Immelman returned at 6am on Sunday to fire a 65, Clarke faded away, leaving the South African with just enough breathing space to take victory.
