Burns, 34, fired a seven-under 65 to finish at 25-under-par, one shot better than third-round leader Chris DiMarco, who birdied the final hole for a four-under 68. Woods began the day six strokes off the lead, but shot a nine-under-par 63 to take the early clubhouse lead at 23-under.
Japan's Hidemichi Tanaka (66) and Tim Herron (66) were three shots back in fourth. Meanwhile, South Korean KJ Choi (64), David Toms (65), South African Tim Clark (66) and John Rollins (66) all finished at 21-under. Burns, who led after round one with Tanaka and Jeff Sluman became the 16th first-time winner on the PGA Tour this season. Burns was three under at the turn and made four birdies between the 10th and 14th holes before parring his way home. |
