Els sees off sluggish Singh
South Africa's Ernie Els in action at Wentworth
Els was solid, not spectacular, on Saturday

Second seed Ernie Els booked his place in Sunday's World Match Play Championship final thanks to a 3&2 victory over Vijay Singh.

It wasn't explosive but it was good enough

The three-times winner took advantage of Singh's sloppy start on Saturday to carve out a three-hole lead at the halfway mark.

Singh went further behind after a bogey at the 19th and Els chipped in from the bunker for a birdie at the par-three 23rd to extend the lead to five.

The Fijian managed to reduce the deficit to two but Els' birdie at the 31st ended any comeback hopes.

Despite not playing as brilliantly as on Friday, the 2002 Open champion will go into Sunday's final against Sergio Garcia with confidence high.

"I think I was 3-under this morning and 1-under this afternoon," the British Open champion said.

"It wasn't explosive but it was good enough. I played well tee to green this morning but I couldn't make a putt."

Meanwhile Singh said that he struggled to recover from his horrendous start.

"I was always trying to catch up after losing the first three holes," Singh said.

"I thought I had a chance when he gave me the 29th and 30th but he holed from 15 feet at the next and that was it."
