The pair then halve the first six holes of sudden death, making this the longest play-off in tournament history. The winner will join Padraig Harrington, Colin Montgomerie and Vijay Singh in Friday's quarter-finals. Major incidents as they happen: 1804: After watching Campbell's putt stop short, Faldo sees his putt roll around the edge of the hole but stay up. Both men agree enough is enough, and the match will resume at the 17th on Friday morning. 1756: Faldo goes closest with his birdie putt, but both men settle for pars and the match moves on to the second. 1743: Superb approach shots from both players set up short birdie putts, which are sunk, and Campbell and Faldo head off to their fifth extra hole - making this the longest play-off in tournament history. 1727: Faldo holes a tricky six-foot birdie putt to take the match up the 18th for the third time. Minutes before, Campbell saw his eagle putt slide inches past. 1711: Rose misses his chance to take his match with Singh to extra holes when he three-putts from the fringe. Singh wins by one. 1710: Faldo sees a match-winning putt creep past the hole, and he and Campbell move on to the third extra hole, the 17th. 1703: Campbell and Faldo both miss birdie putts to win the match and head towards the second. 1655: Rose shows great character to birdie the 17th and take Singh up the final hole. 1651: Campbell misses a short putt to beat Faldo on the 18th, and extra holes beckon. 1647: Funk can do no better than par on the 16th, giving Montgomerie a 3&2 victory. 1640: Singh birdies the 16th to go dormie two over Rose, who sees his putt for a half lip out. 1638: Montgomerie misses a chance to join Harrington in the clubhouse with a 4&3 win under his belt, but a bogey means Funk is still alive. 1630: Faldo birdies the 17th to take Campbell up the 18th, while Rose gets one back at the par-four 15th with a gutsy three. 1624: Harrington becomes Thursday's first winner when Weir three-putts the 15th to hand the Irishman a 4&3 victory. One hole behind, Singh stretches his lead over Rose to two with four to play. 1617: Campbell misses a putt to win his match on the 16th, but he stays dormie two against Faldo. 1610: Weir refuses to give up and he holes a huge putt at the 14th. Sadly, Harrington follows him in from 25 feet to halve the hole and stay three up with four to play. 1607: A clumsy bogey from Funk gives Montgomerie a three-hole lead with six to play. 1604: Campbell compounds Faldo's misery with a birdie at 15 to go two up. But the news is better for Harrington as he opens a three-shot lead over Weir with five to play. 1552: Faldo hands back the hole Campbell gave him at 13 with a bogey at 14 to go one down with four to play. 1545: Campbell bogeys the 13th to fall back to all square with Faldo. 1538: Harrington opens a two-hole gap over Weir with a birdie at the 11th. But Montgomerie makes a mess of the 10th to give Funk a hole back. 1532: Funk cards his third bogey in four holes to slump to three holes behind Montgomerie with nine to play. Up ahead, Rose birdies the 10th to reduce his arrears to Singh to just one with eight to play. 1528: Singh drops a shot, and a hole, at the ninth to take a two-hole lead over Rose into the back nine. 1516: Harrington chips in from the trees but Weir sinks a 30-foot putt to earn his half. Funk misses a tricky five-footer at the eighth to fall a shot further behind Montgomerie. 1502: Faldo birdies the 10th to slice Campbell's lead to just one, but Rose three-putts the seventh to go back to three behind Singh. But there is better news for Harrington as he birdies the eighth to go one up on Weir. 1457: Funk three-putts the sixth to fall a hole behind Montgomerie. 1453: Campbell cards a double bogey - his second of the day to go along with nine birdies - to see his lead over Faldo shaved to two holes. 1446: Montgomerie sees his second straight birdie putt lip out to remain all square with Funk after five. But Singh sinks his short birdie putt at the sixth to go back to two up over Rose. 1439: Rose wins his second hole of the day with a superb birdie at the fifth. Singh now leads by one. 1430: Faldo sinks a crucial 10-foot putt to halve the seventh and remain three holes behind Campbell. 1417: Funk drains a 20-foot birdie putt and Montgomerie misses a five-footer to leave the match all square. 1412: The Funk revival continues when the American birdies the first to reduce the gap to Montgomerie to just one hole. Meanwhile, Rose wins his first hole of the day when Singh bogeys the third. 1406: Campbell hits back with a superb birdie at the par-three fifth, while Harrington bogeys the third. 1359: A superb three-wood sets up an eagle-three for Faldo, cutting the gap to Campbell to two holes. 1351: Harrington goes a shot up when Weir bogeys the second. 1346: Faldo gives the shot back when he three-putts the third. 1332: After mutual pars at the first hole of the afternoon's play, Campbell bogeys the second to let Faldo reduce the gap to two holes. 1317: Funk and Montgomerie birdie the last to reach the break with the Scot two up. 1305: Funk birdies the 17th to reduce his deficit to Montgomerie to two. Rose and Singh birdie the 18th to leave the Fijian three up at the half-way stage. 1300: Harrington and Weir get back to the clubhouse all square after the Irishman wins the 18th with a birdie. 1244: Weir wins the par-five 17th when Harrington bogeys after hooking his drive out of bounds. The Canadian takes a one-hole lead. Singh stretches his lead over Rose to three holes with a birdie at the 16th. 1232: Faldo misses a six-foot eagle putt to go into lunch still three down on Campbell.
