Woods holds off Goosen challenge

Woods held off Goosen's late burst
Tiger Woods held off a late challenge from South Africa's Retief Goosen to win the American Express World Championship at Mount Juilet.

Three birdies on the outward nine followed by an eagle at the 10th gave the world number one a four-shot advantage and looked to have secured the win.

  Final leaderboard
-25 Woods (USA)
-24 Goosen (Rsa)
-21 Singh (Fij)
-20 Kelly (USA), Toms (USA)
-19 McCarron (USA)
-18 Garcia (Spa)

But Goosen provided a late burst with a 62, including an eagle at 17 that moved him within one shot of Woods.

Woods overcame some nervous moments to birdie the 17th and was able to drop a shot at the last and still pick up the $1m first prize.

Spain's Sergio Garcia had earlier shot a new course record with a 62 to set the early clubhouse lead on 18 under.

1508: At the final hole Woods misses only his second green in regulation on day four. He chips to six feet but misses the putt to end his hopes of going through the entire tournament without a bogey.

1504: Woods shows why he is the world number one by making his long birdie putt at the penultimate hole to take a two-shot lead down the last.

1501: Things swing back in Woods' favour as he finds the green with his third shot at the 17th and Goosen misses his birdie putt at the last. Goosen's par gives him a 62 to tie the course record earlier set by Garcia.

1658: Goosen finds the green at the 18th with a chance for a birdie and a final round 61 and put further pressure on Woods.

1657: Woods skirts with danger at the 17th when his drive ends up behind a tree. His second shot goes right but he appears to have avoided too much trouble.

1650: Goosen makes his eagle putt at the 17th to move within one shot of Woods, who looks to have found a spot of trouble on the same hole.

1649: Singh sees his eagle putt at the 17th narrowly miss, but the birdie takes him into third place on his own.

1646: Kelly ends on a disappointing note as he misses a short par putt at the last to slip back to 20 under.

1637: Another birdie from Goosen at the 16th sees him move within three shots of Woods.

1631: Kelly knocks in a short birdie putt at the 17th to go seven under for the day and 21 under for the tournament.

1628: Vijay Singh goes six under for the round with a birdie at the 15th to move to 20 under.

1625: Goosen gets his eighth birdie of the day at the 15th to move into second place on his own.

1621: Woods moves to 25 under with a birdie at the 14th and the gap between him and his nearest competitor is now five shots.

1603: A birdie at the 13th sees Goosen move to 20 under alongside Kelly.

1556: Kelly birdies the 15th to move back into second on his own at 20 under.

1546: Kelly bogeys the 14th to slip to 19 under and give Woods a five-stroke cushion at the top of the leaderboard. Goosen and Toms join the group on 19 under with birdies.

1540: Woods goes back into a four-shot lead with an eagle at the 10th hole.

1532: Goosen joins Kelly and Singh on 19 under with a birdie at the 10th.

1529: An eagle from Vijay Singh at the 10th takes him to 19 under and into a tie for second.

1523: Garcia misses a birdie putt at the last for a sensational 61. He settles for a course record 62 and the clubhouse lead on 18 under.

1515: Campbell pars the last to become the latest to tie the course record and takeover the clubhouse lead.

1513: Kelly birdies the 10th to move into second on his own on 19 under.

1509: Garcia chips in from off the green for an eagle at the 17th to move to 18 under and into a tie for second.

1504: Goosen grabs another biride to move to 18 under.
