Halsall swims to new Manx records

200m backstroke semi-final in Sheffield
Halsall has set a new island record for the 200m backstroke

Grant Halsall continued to rewrite the Isle of Man record books at the British Swimming Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on Wednesday.

Swimming in the semi-final of the 200 metre backstroke, the 15-year-old once again set a new British record for his age group.

Halsall recorded a time of 2 minutes 3.73 seconds to beat his own record.

The teenager finished the event in eleventh position, missing out on the final by just one second.

On Tuesday Halsall finished a creditable seventh in the 100m backstroke final.

On his way to the final Halsall set a new Isle of Man senior and junior record with a time of 56.75 seconds.

Halsall was the youngest finalist by over three years and his time of 57.00 seconds was one second faster than the previous British record for his age.

Halsall goes in the heats of the 100m butterfly on Thursday.
