By Tony Leighton
Reading moved up to second place in the Women's Premier League with a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The Royals now trail Sunderland by a point although the north-east side have four games in hand over their rivals with Forest slipping to third place.
In the battle of the clubs propping up the division, bottom-placed Barnet beat Millwall Lionesses 3-1.
Third from bottom Watford were plunged deeper into trouble after losing 3-0 at home to rejuvenated Leeds United.
Nottingham Forest 1-2 Reading
A 19th minute goal by Melissa Fletcher put the Royals on the way to ending a three-match losing run.
Kelly Finley put the ball into her own net to present the visitors with their second goal two minutes after the interval.
Although Suzanne Davies reduced the arrears two minutes later, Forest were unable to force an equaliser.
As a result Reading moved above their hosts into second spot, though Forest have three games in hand while leaders Sunderland have four.
Barnet 3-1 Millwall Lionesses
Stacey Sowden started then finished the scoring to earn Barnet a crucial three points in their fight for survival.
The Bees striker hit the first goal after seven minutes, but seven minutes later Lindsey Morgan brought the scores level.
Cheryl Williams restored the home side's lead in the 25th minute and Sowden made the margin of victory more emphatic in the last minute.
It was Barnet's second successive win and put them just one point below Millwall and, more importantly, only two points behind the safety places.
Watford 0-3 Leeds United
Watford are lying a place above the relegation zone after losing to Leeds, who continued their climb away from trouble.
They went ahead in the 36th minute, Jess Round's 20-yard drive flying in off the post.
Two minutes later Tanya Richards doubled the lead with a precise 30-yard lob.
And nine minutes into the second half Chloe Foster ensured there would be no way back for Watford with a narrow-angled shot into the top far corner of the net.
