Forest Ladies revel in promotion

Dawkins led her side to an unbeaten league campaign

Nottingham Forest Ladies manager Lisa Dawkins cannot wait to face the best teams in the land after securing a place in the National Premier League.

Forest beat Sheffield Wednesday in the last game of the season to go up as champions of the Northern Division.

Dawkins said: "It hasn't really sunk in, I suppose it will hit home when I see the fixture list - Forest against Arsenal, Everton, Leeds etc."

Forest will receive their Championship trophy at the City Ground on Saturday.

The Reds won 18 and drew four of their 22 league fixtures to finish three points above nearest rivals Lincoln City Ladies.

Dawkins, whose side have climbed three leagues in six seasons, said the success was down to team unity.

"They have all worked hard, remained focused and most of all have worked together as a unit. This combination has been the pivotal factor for our success," she said.

Chairman Paula Andrews

Lincoln went into the final match of the season ahead of Forest on goal difference but they suffered a shock defeat.

"After hearing the news that Sunderland had beaten Lincoln I realised we were there," Dawkins explained.

"I'm not too proud to admit that I can't really put into words what it means to me.

"I am a lifelong Forest fan and Forest Ladies are in my blood. This is my dream and now the dreams of others and we really all can share in the fact that we are champions."

Club chairman Paula Andrews said Dawkins was the most successful manager the side had ever had.

"She has worked with passion, determination and a commitment to drive on her players whilst still learning lessons over that time and working with some influential assistants and coaches," Andrews said.

"I have never been more proud to be associated with Nottingham Forest Ladies and all those that have played or worked for the cause to bring us here to this position."

Forest Ladies are also through to the F.A Women's Nottinghamshire County Cup final on 11 May after beating Gedling Town 13-1.
