Sunderland were the spoilers as they ended Lincoln City's Premier North title challenge with a 2-1 win.
Sunday's defeat, the Lady Imps' first in 11 games, handed Nottingham Forest the championship on the final day.
Lucy Bronze's late winner was the final nail in the coffin for Lincoln as Sunderland ended their season on a high note.
Earlier Steph O'Brien gave Sunderland the lead with a superb volley before Megan Harris grabbed an equaliser.
Lincoln had the better of the play in the first half and were unlucky not to go ahead after twice hitting the woodwork early on.
The second half saw a much-improved display from the home side, who began to show that they are capable of matching the best.
Bronze was the driving force in midfield, ably supported by Elisha Fry. And home keeper Helen Alderson had to be at her best to save two close-range efforts late in the game.
Sunderland still have two fixtures remaining, both at home v Aston Villa (27 April) and Preston (4 May).
The Wearsiders will finish third and, but for a shaky start to the campaign could have finished higher. But the signs are definitely encouraging for success next season.
