York City manager Gary Mills is keen to bring midfielder Robbie Weir back to the club after his loan spell ended.
Weir, 22, has returned to Sunderland after spending a month at Bootham Crescent following a successful trial.
Mills told BBC Radio York: "Robbie's loan ended on Monday but we couldn't come to any agreement about him signing (before the Grimsby game).
"I'd like him to be part of this football club, hopefully it can be sorted out this week."
Mills added: "If not we'd have to take it from there but Robbie's done well for me. I tried to get everything sorted but it didn't happen."
Meanwhile, Mills emphasised that he is keen to keep hold of defender David McGurk despite renewed interest from Luton Town.
"David McGurk is a big part of my plans at this football club, I want him at this football club.
"He's gone about his job and taken a lot of pride in the clean sheets we're keeping."
