Leon Constantine's goal downed Grimsby Town as York City won with their seventh clean sheet in a row.
Constantine broke the offside trap, bore down on goal and coolly lobbed over keeper Kenny Arthur.
The striker could have doubled the lead shortly after but he glanced a header wide from a right-wing cross.
Second-half chances were at a premium, but Town's Lee Peacock headed wide and Alan Connell fired over while Arthur foiled Constantine in stoppage time.
