York City admit they are devastated that they will lose the services of top scorer Clayton Donaldson for nothing in the summer. Donaldson has signed a pre-contract agreement with Hibernian and because he is moving to Scotland, York will not receive a fee when his deal expires.
A club statement said: "It is devastating that York will receive nothing when he joins Hibernian."
"Clayton Donaldson will stay at York City until the end of the season."
The Conference club had rejected bids of up to 200,000 from English clubs.
That would have forced a tribunal to set a fee for Donaldson when he leaves at the end of the season.
 | Before Clayton Donaldson joined York he was a player who had enjoyed little success |
York have rejected an offer of 50,000 from Hibs to release the player immediately as they look to secure promotion from the Conference.
A statement from the club said: "Before Clayton Donaldson joined York City it is fair to state he was a player who had enjoyed little success.
"It is only the work of Billy McEwan and York City Football Club that has made Clayton Donaldson the player he is today."
The statement adds: "Although we have been offered 50,000 from Hibernian for Clayton to leave immediately our position remains the same: Clayton Donaldson will stay at York City until the end of the season.
"We only hope the intervention of this transfer arrangement has not unsettled our player and that Clayton will still perform to the best of his ability."
