Yeovil Town chief executive Martyn Starnes has assured supporters they are working hard to replace fans' favourite Marcus Stewart.

The striker, 35, turned down Yeovil's contract offer, instead joining League Two newcomers Exeter City.

"We've got lots of plates spinning at the moment," Starnes told BBC Somerset.

"We're quietly doing the work in the background. We're not giving too much away because we want to make sure we secure them rather than someone else."

Yeovil have been trying to strike a new deal with Stewart since the season ended, but Starnes denies they ever offered him the position of player-coach.

"There had been discussion about that, explorations, but nothing was concluded.

"We would have liked to have come to some agreement, but that hasn't manifested itself."
