Marcus Stewart has joined Exeter City on a free transfer
Exeter City have signed much-travelled Yeovil Town striker Marcus Stewart on a free transfer.
Stewart, 35, who failed to agree a new contract at Huish Park, passed a medical at the weekend.
Yeovil boss Russell Slade had offered Stewart a player-coach role in a bid to get him to stay at Huish Park.
But, after training with Grecians boss Paul Tisdale's former club Team Bath, he is now expected to play in City's friendly with Portsmouth on Wednesday.
Stewart has commanded over 6m in transfer fees over his career, hitting 242 goals in 687 games for six clubs.
Bristol-born Stewart began his career at Twerton Park in 1991 with then Bath-based Bristol Rovers, where he spent five years before making his name at Huddersfield Town, for whom he hit 68 goals in three and a years following a 1.2m move.
He then moved for 2.5m to Ipswich Town, helping them to the Premier League, before moving on again, for his most expensive price tag at 3.25m, to Sunderland in August 2002.
He returned to Bristol in the summer of 2005 to play for City before moving to Yeovil on loan in 2006. He then transferred full time in January 2007 and played 74 times for the Glovers, scoring 15 goals in nearly two seasons.
"I am obviously delighted to get a player of Marcus's quality," Exeter boss Tisdale told the club website. "He will bring another dimension to our play.
"It is a real coup to sign a player of his experience and shows just how far Exeter City as a club have come."
