Yeovil close in on keeper signing

Russell Slade
Slade hopes to bolster his small squad soon

Yeovil Town manager Russell Slade is closing in on more transfer targets, with a new goalkeeper his top priority.

The club have been without a stopper since Steve Mildenhall turned down a new contract and moved to Southend United last month.

"We are very close to a goalkeeper which is important to us," Slade told BBC Somerset.

"There are others we want to bring in too, but there's going to have to be a bit of wheeling and dealing."

Netherlands Antilles striker Orlando Smeekes has arrived at Huish Park and will feature in a friendly match, along with the club's other trialists.

"He's very quick and has a good pedigree so we need to look at him."

"We've organised a trial game for him, and we'll know more about him and some of the other trialists then," Slade added.

"To be honest they've been quite good and it's surprised me. Sometimes you get a mixed bag but there are very few who've not shown something so that's a good sign."
