Dean Saunders says Westwood will make a positive impact for Wrexham
Wrexham centre-half Ashley Westwood has signed for another season, but defender Darran Kempson is to leave.
Westwood has extended his deal while Kempson has come to an agreement over the remaining year of his contract.
Westwood told the website: "There was never any real doubt I would be back. I enjoyed last season, although it was frustrating in the last month or two."
The Dragons say Kempson has attracted interest from a Football League club, prompting his departure.
Westwood, 32, has played 325 league games having begun his career at Manchester United before stints at Crewe, Sheffield Wednesday, Bradford City, Chester City, Stevenage Borough, Port Vale and Northampton Town.
Manager Dean Saunders said: "I'm delighted to have retained Ashley for another season.
"Not only does he bring a vast amount of experience to the team, but he's also a big presence off the pitch.
"He will only make a positive contribution to the side over the coming campaign."
Westwood added: "The boss knows what he need to make sure we are up there throughout the year and promotion is our aim - it's the only thing I'm focused on."
Ex-Shrewsbury Town player Kempson was on loan at Forest Green Rovers last season.
"I've enjoyed my time at Wrexham," said Kempson. "It's a great club and I've made some good friends here.
"Unfortunately things don't always work our as you would like in football, but I understand that.
"I'm sorry to be leaving, but I'll be getting the chance of regular football and as a player that's all you want."
Saunders saw his side continue their pre-season programme on Wednesday night with a 3-0 win at Colwyn Bay.
