Long-serving Wrexham midfielder Wayne Phillips will report for pre-season training with the club after agreeing a short-term deal.

The 31-year-old, who first played for Wrexham in the 1989/90 season and returned to the Racecourse Ground three years ago following a short spell at Stockport, was offered a month-to-month contract by manager Denis Smith.

And Phillips, who has started over 250 games for the club, has accepted the deal in the hope of persuading Smith, or anyone else, that he is worth a longer contract.

"I was very down and very disappointed when I was only offered a monthly contract," he told the Liverpool Daily Post.

"But, having talked to a few people, I'm going back and if things go well for me in the first month or so there may be something we can work out.

"In any event, I need to be playing to put myself in the shop window and I think I will get the opportunity to show what I'm capable of."
