Wolves boss Mick McCarthy hoping to buy in January

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has hinted that a new striker is his main target during the January transfer window.

"We would suffer here if we lost Kevin Doyle or Sylvan Ebanks-Blake," he said.

"We've got bids in for players but we can't do any business without someone else's permission. You are reliant on people accepting them."

Wolves are rumoured to be interested in Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford while McCarthy may return with a second offer for Hull winger Stephen Hunt.

But the former Republic of Ireland and Sunderland boss was unwilling to add Wolves to a growing list of suitors for Beckford.

"Us and how many others have been linked with Beckford? Do you think his agent might be working overtime?" said McCarthy.

Bolton and Newcastle have also been reported to be considering bids for the 26-year-old.

Hull may be convinced to part with Hunt, despite his five league goals this season, as chairman Adam Pearson looks to reduce the club's wage bill.

Wolves' hunt for attacking options has been hastened by injuries to forwards Andy Keogh and Stefan Maierhofer.

Keogh is ruled out until March with ankle ligament damage while Maierhofer is due to undergo an operation on a hernia this week.

Scotland international Chris Iwelumo has featured in each of the side's last six games, but Sam Vokes, who has just returned from a loan spell at Leeds, is the most experienced of the remaining strikers.
